Hakata Ippudo Ramen 一風堂 @ Pavilion KL
All the way from Fukuoka, Japan to KL, this is everyone-talks-about-ramen, the IPPUDO Ramen. This Hakata style ramen is founded by Ramen King, Shigemi Kawahara and there are over 65 stores in Japan and internationally such as New York, Sydney, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea and Shanghai. Finally, it’s here in Malaysia.
Buta Karaage (Rm 15)
Something new in the menu. Deep fried pork loin with special sauce. Pork loins were coated within the crunchy batter; non greasy and pretty addictive!
Pan-fried gyoza dumplings; filled with flavourful meat fillings.
Fried Young Corn (Rm 8)
Deep fried corn, sprinkled with seaweed seasoning and paprika powder. Love this as the juices were still locked within the corns.
This ramen place serves rice too! The rice portions were small but that’s the price we paid for the serving.
Hakata Meshi (Rm 11)
Rice topped with chashu and mentaiko and served with shredded egg omelette.
Unagi Rice with Wasabi (Rm 17)
Fresh eel on Japanese rice with homemade sauce.
Ippudo offers 3 types of soup base namely the white original Tonkotsu (Shiro), the red special miso blend (Aka) and Karaka miso which is Spicy
Shiromaru Motoaji (Rm 26)
The classic hakata style ramen; the Ippudo’s original tonkotsu broth served with ultra-thin noodles, 2 slices of belly chashu, bean sprouts, kikurage and spring onions.
Shiromaru special (Rm 34)
Shiromaru with flavoured egg, 4 slices of pork belly and seaweed.
With the not too runny yolk Ajitama (Flavoured egg)
Akamaru Shinaji (Rm 28)
Ippudo’s original tonkotsu broth enhanced with special blended miso paste and fragrant garlic oil. Served with spring onions, a refined and modern style ramen.
Karaka-men (Rm 28)
Ippudo ‘s original tonkotsu broth with special spicy miso and ground pork
You could as for extra serving of noodles, Kaedama (Rm 4) as long as there is enough soup in your bowl.
Add in some fresh crushed garlic into the soup for extra ohmmmp!
Their noodles were fine, thin, springy and slurpy. You could opt for the noodles to be done hard or normal according to your preference. As for the soup, it was just alright to me and didn’t really wow me. The Miso soup base was good, rich and has a good fragrant of garlic while the Karaka-men was too salty and spicy a. I still prefer my bowl of ramen from Menya Musashi and Marutama. Or perhaps that is the weather that has the great impact on boosting the tastebuds and appetite?! Both my Marutama and Menya Musashi experience were during the rainy nights but my Ippudo visit was during the scotching hot day.
Well, maybe it’s only me…
