Back Alley Pasta

Seriously very hidden, literally located at one of the back alleys in Ampang (near to the Restoran Hari Hari Datang food court); Back Alley Pasta is a small premise that serves Italian delights and some Japanese inspired dishes, made with artisanal pasta.

This space used to house only about 8 to 9 pax at one time, in front of the kitchen area where you get to observe the chef in action; but now, they have expanded a little, with a small back room that can cater bigger groups. And good news, you wouldn’t have to wait longer than I did as there are more tables up for snatch. Still, reservation is highly recommended in very advance as we have waited for about 3 months just for a table on weekend. Do take note that there is a strict dining hours as per your reservation slot.

We started off with Antipasti and we greedily ordered three. We really love all three of them! I like the arancini the most. It was very fragrant and flavourful, layered with lots of flavours.

As they are famous for their pasta, so I have higher expectation on their pasta. The pasta dishes were really good, especially those sides such as the grilled kurobuta collar steak and yuzu brisket that were served along with the pasta or gnocchi. However, the pasta itself was a lot softer than usual. Maybe that’s the characteristic of freshly made pasta; it turned out to be not the texture I fancy.

Quinoa, Spinach and Truffle Arancini with Pomodoro Sauce (Rm 25)
This Italian quinoa ball is really something. It was very flavourful, soaked up with the tomato sauce, rich and amazing.

Love the charred edges of cauliflower, aromatic and crunchy, paired well with the pesto diavolo and pecorino romano.

Tagliatelle in Nori and Roasted Garlic Butter with Grilled Kurobuta collar Steak and Pesto Diovola (Rm 65)
Must order this! Grilled kurobuta collar steak was grilled to perfection, juicy in pinkish hues and coated with charred edges, extremely aromatic.
