January’s Chef Tasting Menu @ Yoshinari, Plaza Damas 3

January has been a great month to me. Here is another satisfying dinner I had in January.

Back to my favourite comforting Japanese cuisine’s place, I must say this again: Yoshinari NEVER fails! It was another round of impressive course for the month of January. And I was lucky to be able to secure a table for 8 on the last weekend of the month, just right before the CNY, and it was on a full house that night.

Chef Tasting Menu is priced at Rm 155+ per person, comes with appetiser, soup dish, sashimi, grilled dish, warm dish, small dish, meal dish and a sweet ending. Chef Komoto will change the menu every month and you may find surprises in his course every month too!

先付け: 前菜盛合せ おせち風
Appetiser: Appetiser set New Year style
As January is also the Japanese’s New Year, the appetiser course of Yoshinari came extra fancy. This reminded me of the kaiseki style breakfast I had in Japan. Colourful and vibrant small dishes contrasting the elegant matte black plate; classy and created an appetising mood.

お椀:豚肉と跟野菜の白味增仕立て
Soup dish: Pork and vegetable in White miso soup
Simple, nice and comfort bowl of soup. The soup was dosed with sweetness from the pork slices and vegetables along with the umaminess of the white miso.

お造り:寒昆布ヒラメ締め
Sashimi: Hirame marinated with Konbu
My favourite dish of the night! The marinated Hirame slices rolled in with the negi gave extra aromatic flavours. Love it!

焼き物:合鴨低温調理
Grilled dish: Slow Cooked Duck Breast
Beautiful pinkish sliced duck breast, layered with eggplant underneath, absorbing the flavours from the gravy. Yum!

温物:海老芋と餅と地鶏の揚出し
Warm dish: deep-fried Yam, Kampong Chicken and Mochi in Soup (Agedashi)
Japan’s New Year must have – MOCHI! with flavours adsorbing on the mochi skin, it was warm and chewy, very comforting!

凌ぎ: 茄子ソーメン
Small dish: Eggplant Noodle

食事:牡蠣の土锅ご飯

We ended the meal with sweet Red Bean Cake, perfect. Like how it is normally in a full course of Japanese cuisine. This meal, transported me to Japan, again.
