TOKYO: Shibuya Sushi Labo @ Shibuya

Ahhh, Sushi Omakase, it has been a while! This place marked one of the best meals I had during my most recent trip in Japan. My summary post will be up later but I wanna pen down this best memory before everything. LOL

Lead by Chef Tahara, Shibuya Sushi Labo is a 14-seaters counter sushiya offers Edomae Sushi that is priced very reasonably. This sushiya is located at the quieter side of Shibuya, just about 10 minutes’ walk from Shibuya Station.

I went for their lunch, where they offer only one type of lunch course Tsubomi つぼみ; priced at ¥6,600 per person. This 90 minutes Tsubomi course offers you 11 pieces of nigiri sushi and 7 side dishes. Also to highlight, this sushiya is rated 3.51 on Tabelog, which is quite a good one and at this reasonable price.

That day, I have Chef Tahara on the service. It is always nice to be seated at the counter, to observe the chef in action.

First thing first, sake! LOL. They offer a list of sake that is carefully selected to pair with sushi. They also point down the characteristic with a chart; from sweetness to dryness so that it eases your selection. I picked up the Sharaku while my cousin who prefer dry type chose the Tatenogawa. One carafe each and later on we also ordered another sake – Midorikawa.

Chawanmushi as our starter.
Steamed egg custard with seaweed sauce; and it has to be one of the best chawanmushi I come across. Silky and smooth, savoury and umami; and it worked best as an opening to our palates. It worked like a flavour booster that gave me an excitement looking forward the next course.

The team made sure we knew what we were eating by showing us photos and providing descriptions of the fish they served. This was real omotenashi from the chefs and the team.

Sushi labo’s signature. The smokey aroma slowly diffused out as I chewed it in my oral cavity, the palate was dancing with umami-ness.

It was an amazing sushi lunch and I cannot wait to be back again very soon. Chefs and the team made us extra heart-filled moment on this lunch. Next, I wish to be here for their dinner course that comes with 25 items (if I were not wrong).
