Ohhhh Tête-à-tête session, it has been a long while and I miss you sooooo much!

If you have been following me for some times, you surely know that I am a fan of afternoon tea. Happily, the tai-tai mood on and I brought my parents to visit The Ruma Hotel & Residences for their afternoon tea. The afternoon tea I had was their September’s menu, so for the month of October, it may be different. Do check out their website for new menu/price.

Inspired from our local culture, we were presented with this handwashing ritual prior the start of our afternoon tea. The staff will pour water from the copper jug, we then washed our hands and dried up with the cotton cloth provide.

Ahhh, here comes the dainty sweets, savouries and buttery scones, prettily arranged in the classic 3-tier tea stand.

The RuMa offers a wide selection of tea leaves by Voyage Tea to pair with the afternoon tea. There are black tea, green tea, chinese tea, fruit tea, and herbal and flower tea for you to choose from. I picked the Cherry Blossom Green Tea, while The Mutan White Chinese Tea and Passion Plum Fruit Tea for the parents. Love all these tea selections I made, they went great with the assortment of desserts presented. If you are a fan of Fruit Tea, you will love Passion Plum, the sourish fruity passion was pretty tantalising, it made quite a good combination with sweets too.

On the savouries, I loved the cure salmon on the squid ink keropok. Such a delicious starter for the next upcoming bites. And take a look on that Achar marinated petit vegetable tart, so colourful and detaily done too. Its crust, especially, was very buttery and aromatic!

As for the sweets, I really love most of them! They were not sweet at all (most of the sweets stuff in other afternoon tea places are cloyingly sweet but here, they are really really good)! Coffee and roasted peanut profiterole was very rich in coffee and peanut butter flavour; the Pandan and Sarawak pineapple layer cake was fluffy. Mango lime tartlette was packed with mango and layered with a hint of refreshing sourish lime. How I wished the pastry crust for Mango lime tartlette is crispier and that would make it perfect. For the Macaron, the shells were on the softer side. If only they can be crispier, that will make its cream cheese and passion fruit filling pretty outstanding too. Single origin Pahang dark chocolate, kedondong was my favourite on the sweet side! Rich chocolaty flavour with the special characteristic of Pahang dark chocolate itself, matched perfectly with the kedondong in the center; smoothly mirror-glazed and prettily garnished with edible flowers. Such fine and elegant!

Plain scones and fruits scones were aromatic and buttery; served with clotted cream and homemade preserves; we got calamansi and strawberry that day! I had to say that calamansi preserves wowed me! It was on the sourish side but very appetite boosting. Also I find it worked like a palate cleanser too. LOL. And not to mentioned, the scones were fluffy and buttery, with dense but soft texture and not sticky on the palate. Excellent. This is surely the place that offers better scones in town.
