FUKUOKA: Tori Doan Haruyoshi 酉どうあん 春吉店
Ivy asks for Oden, Ivy gets Oden!
A big thank you to my super buddy Jessie for leading the way, making all the reservations and bringing me along on this little culinary adventure in Fukuoka! All I had to do was show up and enjoy the food. How lucky am I?
I had been craving oden, and I was really hoping to find two of my favourites — Kinchaku (もち巾着) and a beautifully tender daikon. And yay, I got both! Sometimes, the simplest food cravings bring the greatest happiness.

Tucked away in the Haruyoshi neighbourhood of Fukuoka, Tori Doan Haruyoshi is a lovely Japanese izakaya, known for two of its specialties – Yakitori and Oden.
What makes this place particularly special is its signature “Chicken Dashi Oden”. Instead of the traditional seafood-based dashi broth which is commonly used for oden, they use a rich, savoury chicken broth to simmer their ingredients! The daikon was tender, and the kinchaku tofu pouch was amazing! Both soaking up all the deep, comforting chicken flavours.
Yakitori another must order here! Made with “Hakata Jidori chicken”, the chicken skewers are perfectly grilled over charcoal, giving each skewer that irresistible smoky aroma and deliciously savoury flavour. A lovely complement to the comforting oden!

Mochi Mochi Kinchaku (¥250) – always my favourite pick in oden option! Chewy mochi rice cake with the beancurd pocket soaked up all the flavourful broth.
Cabbage Roll (¥330)
Dumplings (¥720) in their signature chicken broth – served piping hot (great for the cold weather) in its broth!
Lettuce wrapped in Pork Belly and dressed with Caesar sauce (¥390)
Doan Fried Chicken (¥480) was soooo juicy and delicious! Glad that we’d ordered it.
Japanese White Leek (¥210)
Tori-Tama (¥280) – Chochin wrapped with a thin slice of pork belly and grilled with sauce. Imagine bursting a balloon filled with liquid in your oral cavity. It was so yummmz!
Momo (¥330)
Kawa (¥260)
Bonjiri (¥290)
Tsukune (¥450) – Doan homemade chicken meatballs, juicy with a nice charred flavour

It was one of those meals that made me happy from the very first bite — good food, a cosy Japanese izakaya atmosphere and, most importantly, good company.
