Aoi Sample Special Exhibition @ GANNENDO, KL
GANNENDO doesn’t just offer delicious Juwari soba, but also showcasing a lot about Japanese art and culture. This month in April, GANNENDO has an exhibition on Japanese food sample in collaboration with Aoi Sample, a food sample company in Yaizu City, Shizuoka, Japan.
Aoi Sample is a popular destination offering hands-on food sample making experiences. Visitors get to create realistic, miniature food art such as kaisendon or parfait/ crepe straps and even wax tempura batter experience in their factory.
Last weekend, I attended a fun workshop with my friends organized by GANNENDO. During the workshop, we started off with the live zoom stream, where they gave us a behind-the-scenes look at their factory. They walked us through the production area, showcased some sample pieces, and even demonstrated how they create the wax tempura batter.
It was amazing to see how incredibly realistic their work is! Creating just one food sample isn’t east at all – there are so many details to pay attention to.
Next up, we were to do our own food sample with the given options – kaisendon or crepe! I picked up the kaisendon, the set is really cute. It comes with all the mini “ingredients”, tweezer, superglue, a piece of foil for you to place the glue and an instruction note.
We were in a full focus mode to assemble and glue all the ingredients together. Everyone was extra careful when glue-ing the ingredients as the superglue was extremely strong.
Asher had a lot of fun too making his own crepe sample!
My end product! Isn’t it cute?
There are keychains, magnets, and DIY kits on sales in store, price from RM 30 and they are all handmade by Aoi Sample. Don’t miss out the chance to check them out this month, until 25th April 2026!
I like this onigiri! That’s really a cute one.
