MELAKA: BESS Kopitiam @ Bukit Baru

Stumbled on this BESS Kopitiam on Vkeong’s blog when I was in Melaka for a short trip.

BESS Kopitiam

Located at Bukit Baru, opens from 7.30 am to 2.30 pm (except Thursday), BESS Kopitiam has this award winning Nyonya Laksa, awarded by Ministry of Tourism Malaysia for the BEST laksa outlet in 2010. If you would like to avoid the parking ‘heaedache’ and the heavy traffic entering jonker street, this is a good option to have a bowl of nyonya laksa. There are parking spaces in front of the premise.

Nyonya Laksa (Rm 7)
Love its orangey red, rich and thick aromatic soup base that is dosed with spices and ‘lemak’ coconut milk, topped with tofu puff, fried bean curd skin, bean sprouts, hard-boiled egg, shredded cucumber, cockles, daun kesum and a spoonful of laksa sambal for extra spicy kick. Get to know that they use 6 to 8 hours to prepare the ‘laksa sambal’ itself.

Aside from nyonya laksa, BESS Kopitiam serves mee goreng, mee siam, nasi lemak and a variety of BESS toast too.

Mee Goreng (Rm 6)
With lots of ingredients and stir-fried with real wok hei, one of the mee goreng(s) I love.

BESS Kopitiam (8)

Nasi Lemak (Rm 9.7)
Comes with fried egg, kangkung, rempah fried chicken and usual condiments such as sambal, cucumber, peanuts and ikan bilis.

Butter Kaya Toast (Rm 3)
Layered with kaya and thick cut of butter. Just a small letdown, they used Massimo loaf instead of thick toast.
