Penang Curry Mee @ Jia Li Mian Shi Guan, Pandan Jaya

  • Sumo

When my friend Malaysianflavours told me they had the curry mee at their regular place for breakfast while I was working, the next moment, I was craving for it too.

Thanks to them, I had my craving satisfied on the next day. This is not my first visit for their curry mee, in fact; I have been here for a few times.

Located in Pandan Jaya and this claimed to be one of the best Penang style curry mee in KL. It is pretty peak over here during the weekends; you may have to queue for seat. It took us a while for our seat as well as the bowl of curry mee. Also, the noodles and snack here are priced affordably. How often you can get a decent bowl of noodles with lots and lots of toppings at the price of Rm 6.5 for small and bigger bowl at Rm 7.5.

Penang Curry Mee
At the price of Rm 6.5, this glorious bowl of goodness is laden with ginger flower, bean sprout, sambal, tofu pok, soaked cuttlefish, blood cockles, shrimps, coagulated pig blood, mint leaves, in the orangey aromatic creamy broth. Not overly spicy, not overloaded with coconut milk but creamy and fragrant. The sambal is served at the side. You may add in all into your soup or, touch up on every spoonful of noodles. I will go for the earlier one, all in and give it a stir to balance up everything. Sometimes, I will ask for extra helping of sambal when need extra kick. The touches of ginger flowers and mint leaves have spiced up the flavour of curry broth too.

Penang Assam Laksa (Rm 6.5)
Loaded with onions, cucumber, pineapple, ginger flower, shrimp paste, lettuce, slices of sardina pilchardus (sardine) on a bed of springy laksa noodles and touched with laksa krupuk and peppermint. Tangy and lovely with a balance of everything. This was also my first experience with crispy thin keropok in assam laksa. Perhaps I really seldom order assam laksa.

Besides curry mee and assam laksa, Jia Li Mian also serves Penang snack such as Otak-otak and Lobak too.
