Ippudo Ramen 博多一風堂

Originated from Hakata; it is a Japanese ramen chain that is very famous for its tonkotsu ramen. This Hakata style ramen is founded by Ramen King, Shigemi Kawahara and there are over 65 stores in Japan and internationally such as New York, Sydney, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Shanghai and of course Malaysia too.

I know, you guys will say, we also have this in Malaysia; we should just save our tummies for something else. But I have to say, this is really different. I stumbled upon this Ippudo small ramen shop while I was shopping in Shibuya and decided to head in for a bowl of hot piping ramen.

I opted for a classic bowl of ramen with “white” Shiromasu Base with special toppings (¥ 960).

Fine, thin strand of yellowish noodles in milky rich tonkotsu pork bone broth, topped with belly chashu, chopped spring onions, sweet corns, bean sprouts, ajitama (egg) and pieces of seaweed. Springy noodles adsorbing the essence of pork bone broth. Slurpy and yummy. Definitely much better than what I got in my home country.

The outlet we went in Shibuya doesn’t serve pan-fried gyoza, hence I got a plate of “water” gyoza (¥ 280 for 5 pieces) which was actually the boiled-gyoza. It was very good with the juicy of the minced meat oozing out. Flavourful and succulent.
